Sustaining Performance in Times of Uncertainty
It is very difficult to lead through organisational change and disruption, while managing the impact this has on your own role and career, and those of your people. Practical strategies to enhance personal resiliency and build career resilience in times of uncertainty.
Resiliency is the process by which well-being is restored following an adverse event. Resiliency goes beyond the capacity to rebound or bounce back from adversity, conflict or failure. It includes learnings from dealing with adversity and the processes that lead to personal choices and personal growth. Resiliency processes involve three domains:
- self-regulation of thoughts and beliefs;
- self-regulation of emotions; and
- engagement in behavioural strategies that provide a sense of personal control and personal self-efficacy
Vicki shares her SEEFAR career management model, with strategies for maintaining career resilience through all career and life stages. Career resilience, defined as “resistance to career disruption in a less than optimal environment”, focuses on taking responsibility for our own career in an unpredictable work environment.
Practical strategies will be shared for leaders to assist individuals to stay productive despite everyday demands, stresses and pressures and to be able to thrive in an environment of constant change and uncertainty. Only by building personal resiliency and career resilience can we ensure the psychological and emotional wellbeing for ourselves and our people, leading to performance that is sustainable over the longer term.
